ABOUT Your Role
As a Performance Engineer at About.com you will actively monitor, test, and manage web page speed and back-end system performance. You will be instrumental in supporting our goal to 'Make About a Top 10 Site' by guiding the engineering efforts to improve About.com site speed and user experience through better design, proactive monitoring, and real time alerting.
To be successful in this role you must be a highly organized team player, capable of understanding complex system behavior, able to turn data into actionable information and effectively and collaboratively share ideas across many departments.
ABOUT Your Contributions
- Design and implement performance tests to profile web application and system performance
- Scripting and automating test plans for an Agile development environment based on analysis of traffic patterns and web server workload.
- Participate in web server and Java / JVM performance tuning & optimization
- Execute load, capacity, endurance and stress tests on systems to identify issues with the application or infrastructure as well as estimate overall capacity.
- Creating RUM dashboards and alerting
ABOUT You
- At least 2 years experience in web and application performance testing, optimization, or monitoring.
- Experience with an industry standard performance-testing tools like JMeter, HP Loadrunner, Blazemeter, SOASTA Cloudtest or equivalent.
- Knowledge of and ability to write/edit in a scripting language (Bash, Perl, Python, PHP) Familiarity with RegEx a plus
- Knowledge and some experience with the following: Unix/Linux, Javascript, XML, HTML5, CSS3, JSON. JAVA coding knowledge and experience a plus
- Experience with JVM performance tuning & optimization
